Psychological trauma
Psychological trauma is the harm caused to a person's mental health as a result of exposure to adverse environmental factors.
In some cases, these are acute, difficult moments of life experienced that violated the sense of security or accompanied by prolonged stress impact on the human psyche. Psychological trauma is often associated with life-threatening physical trauma or is accompanied by emotional upheaval.
According to the intimate and personal consequences, psychological traumas are divided into biological and personal-destructive, leading to psychosomatic diseases, neuroses, reactive states. The most striking examples of psychological trauma are humiliation and a threat to life and health.
The destructive power of mental trauma depends on the individual significance of the traumatic event for a person, the degree of his psycho-emotional security (fortitude) and resistance to certain factors.
The cause of psychological trauma can be even once suffered physical (including sexual) violence. Trauma often has delayed but very serious consequences for the victim. Many victims suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, for some it ends up with disability benefits. One consequence of the trauma is the victim's inability to trust other people and society in general. The consequences of trauma can be aggravated if, after experiencing violence, the victim is faced with the distrust of others who take the side of the aggressor.
Psychological trauma disrupts a healthy psyche and can lead to mental disorders. At the borderline level, both temporary sensations of discomfort and stable states with the presence of altered formations can appear, which weaken the immune system, working capacity and adaptive thinking abilities.
Massive (catastrophic), sudden and acute injuries can lead to clinical conditions in which the altered states that have appeared (post-traumatic effect with justification) can be harmful to health, cause a departure from observing the norms of a person’s social life (social prestige, the possibility of self-affirmation, respect for others and etc.).
